About Us
Typically Dales, Malham village is compact, pretty and oozing with Yorkshire charm. A seventeenth century coaching inn, The Lister Arms stands opposite the village green. It is named after Thomas Lister of Gisburn Park, who once owned this beautiful stone building and who became the first Lord of Ribblesdale in 1797.

Around Us
With such remarkable scenery it’s no wonder much of the area surrounding Malham village has been designated a site of Special Scientific Interest and is owned by The National Trust.

Steeped in history, traces of Mesolithic caveman dating back to 600AD can still be found locally - in ancient field systems and burial mounds.

With picture postcard stone villages, undulating meadows and dense woodland – the views go on for miles.

For a great day out you could steam up to the historic Settle to Carlisle Railway - passing over the impressive Ribblehead viaduct on the way. Or don a hard hat and explore the White Scar Caves near Ingleton. The longest show cave in Britain with over a mile of beautifully lit subterranean landscape.

For the walkers amongst us, The Pennine Way passes right through the village. But beware; with so many walks and climbs available, it might take you some time choosing your route!

Just a few miles from Malham village is Malham Cove, a giant curved crag of carboniferous limestone formed after the last Ice Age. 80metres high and 300metres wide it dominates the landscape like a huge natural amphitheatre. And with recent sightings of peregrine falcons, it’s a must for twitchers.

Activity Breaks
What better place for some outdoor action than here in The Dales? It’s what we do best, offering you a varied programme including walking, climbing, abseiling, hang gliding, orienteering, cycling and horse riding – all just a click of the heels away. And as our team here at The Lister Arms all hail from the local area, there’s always someone  willing to advise you of other attractions and great days out in the locality.
